Development and Peace
“Welcome to Development and Peace at Our Lady of the Scapular. Our parish group is part of a worldwide effort to promote peace, justice and human dignity by standing alongside communities facing poverty, conflict and inequality. Through prayer, education, advocacy and support for meaningful development projects, we put our Catholic faith into action and help build a more just and peaceful world. We welcome anyone in our parish who would like to learn more, get involved or simply join us in prayer and solidarity.”

Our Mission
Development and Peace is the official international development organization of the Catholic Church in Canada, established by the Canadian bishops in 1967. It is a member of the Vatican-based Caritas Internationalis and has a two-fold purpose:

To raise funds to support partners in the Global South who promote alternatives to unfair social, political and economic structures and,

To educate the Canadian population about the causes of poverty and mobilize Canadians towards actions for change.

At Our Lady of the Scapular parish we execute two key campaigns each year. In the Fall we have an education campaign to help you understand the issues that cause poverty and underdevelopment. And during Lent, for the second campaign, our focus is on prayer, particularly the Solidarity Way of the Cross and includes fundraising to support development projects by our partners in the Global South.
